Dusk

Oil on 1/4" Board. Approx 12"x7" SOLD

You know me and the utility poles. This one stood out with the sunset behind it. And what's with sunsets, by the way. For me, they have the most challenging color transitions out of any subject.

Bravo! I love this one Michael. You're a few feet above most artists. I see so many paintings loaded with potential but don't quite cut the mustard. But with this one, you tackled it wondefully (as usual) and said exactly what needed to be said.

Sunsets are challenging because there are opposite hues scattered throughout the sky. One of the challenges is to keep the blending of these from turning to a muddy grey. Usually a judicious but conservative dose of Alizarin Crimson solves the problem. I think you captured the elements quite nicely. You nailed those trees too.

Also appreciate keeping the power line in it. A debatable decision, but it adds realism and a focal point. Situated in front of the brightest part of the sky, it makes a nice silhouette.

WONDERFUL! About the color transitions... I've often looked at sunsets and wondered about those unidentifiable in-between shades, thinking "How would a painter mix that color?"
